| Germany brought home three wins from WSDC 2011 Germany lost both debates in split decisions today (2:1 v Hong Kong and 2:1 to Czech Republic), which leaves us with three wins, five losses, three of them split - that's ten ballots. Sadly, the tournament is over for us, but it's been great having Dilek, Viola, Karoline, Felix, Kai and coach Jana on the delegation in Dundee who have left a great impression on everyone nonetheless, and have been great assets to representing Germany at WSDC. Thank you very much and see you again in Capetown 2012! 22 AUG 2010 | |||

We deeply regret that we can't accept any other teams at this time, apart from putting them on the wait list, since we have never dreamt it possible to have such an overwhelming feedback. Teams registered so far are (changes may and will occur): Alberta Wait list: | |||

British Embassy Berlin The German National Team, as well as St. Benno-Gymnasium, Dresden, and the representatives of Berlin were all present at the British Embassy Berlin on 18th December for a reception. The subject of the reception was the Olympic Games in London in 2012. They had recently held a show debate and debating workshop there and this was a follow-up (and kind of a thank you). And what a follow-up it turned out to be! There was a panel discussion with the Olympic athletes Britta Steffen, Christian Schenk and Georgina Harland, which was extremely inspiring to all present, and applied as much to the world of debating as it did to the Olympics. Then came the highlight: the attendance of HRH Prince Harry! He was attending "Ein Herz für Kinder" in Berlin that evening and had come to the Embassy in advance. It was a really exciting and inspiring experience to meet royalty, even for a brief couple of minutes. Our thanks go out to the British Embassy in Berlin and in particular to Astrid Ladd for her coordination of and invitation to this event. |

Debating Society Germany e.V. @ Freies Radio Stuttgart:
|
|||
| Debating
techniques, especially debating in English, are still rather uncommon at
German schools. We look back to a tradition of 15 years, and we now send
an annual team to the World
Schools Debating Championships.
We passionately believe that debating not only promotes independence of mind, a critical and analytical approach, clarity in presentation, and a fearlessness in tackling controversial matters, but also tolerance based on respect for contrary opinions. Debaters think on their feet and they learn to use English as a second language.
