rules (5th March 2005 / pdf, 14 KB)

draw - revised (5th March 2005 / pdf, 32 KB)

Unfortunately we had to accept the drop out of the Tübingen team and therefore you will find a slightly revised and changed draw for the weekend. Particularly concerned are Wiggy, Taus, Wernigerode, Humpisschule and Mörike. Please read the draw very carefully, some of you even had to change sides. Added to this is the new motion for Round 3 and the schedule for the days at Ehrenbreitstein.

We tried to make it as convenient for everybody as possible by reducing the meetings to two weekends on the whole. We found that a long weekend together in a part of Germany where we have hardly seen anyone debating, might be a chance for all of us, not only to meet and debate, but to see and experience a different part of Germany together. We have made reservations at Jugendherberge Ehrenbreitstein, an old fortress overlooking the Rhine and Koblenz, romantic and inspriring! We are looking forward to spending a whole weekend together!

Saturday, 22nd January 2005
Debates on 22nd January at the different venues:
ROUND 1 (prepared): "This house believes that education policy in Germany should be the responsibility of the Federal Government (in Berlin)."
ROUND 2 (impromptu)

The first meeting will take place at the same time, with the same motions in four different venues: Sachsen-Anhalt (thanks for offering to host the debates! It's is great that you will do this for us!), Schwäbisch Gmünd, Fellbach (thank you for arranging everything in this part of Germany)and Villingen ( I hope you will agree and organize the debates for one day or afternoon at the southern end of Debating Country, thank you very much!). I hope that you all agree with our arrangements and that your debaters will eagerly seize the chance to travel north, south, east or west. Since we have become a truely nationwide debating community we must also promote an all-German spirit and join in new places. Therefore some teams will have to travel more than others this year, i.e. Taus and Mörike, but also Wernigerode and HH. This will happen to other teams next year, then it will be their turn to go north.
If there are any questions, complaints, disturbances, insoluble problems, tell me and I am sure we will be able to solve them together. In the end we can tell you with absolute certainty that our Senior League will be fun and a success. We for our part are very much looking forward to it.

by round 3 for Ettlingen (impromptu)
ROUND 3 (prepared):
"This house would ban the use of human embryos in scientific research."
ROUND 4 (impromptu)
Sunday; 20th March 2005
Jugendherberge Ehrenbreitstein
ROUND 5 (impromptu)
Sunday afternoon: teams depart.

Our weekend at Ehrenbreitstein: they need the exact number and sexes of visitors within the next two weeks, because they must reserve rooms etc. I suggest that you send the names etc of your team members for the debating weekend asap till 20th January. You may bring as many as you want to, 3 or 9 debaters, as you will have to pay for the stay accordingly and the youth hostel is big enough. But please, send the names soon. We are looking forward to seeing you soon! Best wishes Angelika

Let me add another important item: we would like to bring students and teachers together and create an atmosphere of solidarity and understanding all through the debating community. Therefore we will have a social evening on Friday. We would like to ask every team to somehow contribute to this event. How you want to contribute or what your team will do is up to your own creativeness and talent. Most teachers are familiar with "warmers" and other activities meant to facilitate group formation. The main thing and aim is that everybody helps create a positive group atmosphere of mutual trust, confidence and security among German debaters and coaches or judges.
