Dear English Colleagues, dear friends,
the new school year has begun all over Germany at last and I hope all
of you are back and enthusiatically waiting for our activities this year.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to our new Senior League 2006/07!
This year promises to be highly successful and exciting with even more
schools debating all over the country than ever before.
The intention of Senior League is to encourage debaters to meet and practise,
we want to offer a platform to everybody, old hands and beginners to learn
from each other.
We hope that lots of new schools in Berlin, Hessen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Nordrhein-Westfalen
and elsewhere will take the opportunity to meet and practise with old
and experienced teams as well as other novice teams. We are looking forward
to having many debaters from all parts of Germany, just like the popular
sports and football clubs. This will also include the pleasure of travelling,
meeting and making new friends, which is the heart and soul in our work.
Let me now give you some important information regarding the events of
this coming Senior League.
When will we meet? The dates of the rounds have been determined as follows,
11th November - Round 1+2
3rd February - Round 3+4
23rd - 25th March - Senior League Weekend, Lindau, Round 5+6+7+8
7th July - Semi finals and final.
This year the closing registration date for SL is October, 21st, 2006.
Teams must register through a teacher or adult coach, debates will be
in the Worlds format (adapted British parliamentary)with teams consisting
of 5 debaters.
Where will we have the debates? We are not yet able to tell you where
the debates will take place, but that information will hopefully be available
very soon. If you think you could host a number of debates at your school
we would be very delighted to hear from you.
Similarly, we cannot tell you who your opponents will be, we will sort
this out as quickly as possible. We will try to make it easy for beginners
in particular in order to help promote competence and confidence in the
fascinating world of debating.
Now I hope you feel encouraged to register and I wish you good luck in
the coming debates! We are looking forward to meeting all of you!
