Hello everybody for the last time hopefully in this old year. Things have changed a little since Lindau and I had to revise the draw again.

Debating-Weekend 7th – 9th December 2007

draw 2007 (pdf)

We are proud to tell you that this year wwe have 38 teams from all over Germany from HH, Berlin, Bavaria/Munich, Hessen/Camberg and BW. This means that there will be about 230 people in Lindau if every team brings 6 persons. The hostel has about 240 beds only, i.e. we will have it completely for ourselves! But this means on the other hand, that every school may only bring 5 debaters and 1 or 2 adults. Most coaches/judges will therefore have to share rooms (not with debaters, but other adults). The costs will be exactly the same as last year: 60.-€ per person (also for coaches etc.) Please transfer the sum you owe to our DSG accountsoon, we have to make an advance payment soon, and, remember, last year we had a lot of people who cancelled last minute or didn't turn up at all, your registration is final, you cannot be reimbursed if someone drops out.

Dear coaches,
here is the draw for the whole school year, except, of course, the finals.
You will still find two remarkable gaps, blanks in it, there are still two venues missing or uncertain.
I would like to seriously appeal to all of you again: Senior League, and all our other competitions as well, can only be run if everybody offers active support and help. I know it is not easy, but we rely on your efforts and your commitment, we are a non-profit, non government club or family which means we have only a minimum of financial resources. This means we are completely dependent on peolpe who do all the work voluntarily. If we will have to rent rooms or conference places for the debates this would increase our (and your!) costs tremendously, so no one (except possibly the richest private schools)could really afford attending such an event any more.
Secondly we would like to make travelling as convenient as possible for everybody, so we are looking for decentralised venues:
1. the first blank: we assumed that we would be able to talk some team from HH or Berlin or Munich into hosting one afternoon with two debates in April and/or? in Februaury. There is still enough time to prepare things and also to arrange some chaep way to travel there, isn't it? Two debates is not too much work, a nice welcome with tea and bisciuts, 3 classrooms, a youth hostel where the teams may stay overnight and that's it. We think, for HH, Berlin etc. this could be a chance to show their home audience what SL is about. And for the teams from other places wouldn't it be an extraordinary chance to spend a weekend in spring in HH or Berlin?
2. the second missing venue: to give the southern or eastern teams a chance to stay at home: we are still lacking a second venue for ONE single round in February, This can really be done by EVERY school: you just have to provideand allot the classrooms and say hello when people arrive! Of course we would enjoy some cakes and coffee, but with one round only not even this is a must. I am sure that some school in and around Stuttgart, Esslingen or further north/east/south will be able to provide a venue for the Saturday afternoon,February 16th!
Finally I'd like to say that we have done whatever we could, now it's up to you to help fill the gaps, put the plan into effect and make it work out smoothly.
Looking forward to a year of highly intersting debates best wishes Angelika

This year the closing registration date for SL is October, 24th, 2007. registration (pdf)

Dear coaches, colleagues, friends,
the registration for Senior League is now open and we are looking forward to welcoming a number of new schools and teams.
SL numbers have again increased considerably and we hope we will be able to manage everything as well as last year. As usual the rules will be:
1. Everybody has to observe the code of conduct (see homepage) 2. Teams of five, of whom 3 will speak in the debates, but teams may vary from round to round.
3. So as to avoid undue mobility, venues will be as local as possible. We will do our best to make it as convenient as possible for everybody, but a number of teams will have to travel a longer distance at least two times. We think this can be a good opportunity for all of you to get to know new places and new people and make new friends in other parts of Germany.Venues of SL and JL will partly coincide so as to avoid using up too many of your Saturdays.
4. Teams will be from grade 10 to 13, speaking time 8 minutes (4 minutes for replies). We will, of course, be lenient with the new teams at the beginning, but they should try to reach 6 minutes at least.
5. Finals will probably be outside Stuttgart this year aligned with JL finals.
6. We expect DSG membership for all teams except those who are joining us for the first time. For our members SL will be for free this year, a small fee of 20€ is exacted from the others, the non-members, to cover copies, medals etc.
7. For the Lindau weekend there will be a separate registration (up to 8 students per school may join us for this thrilling event) after the holidays, which will be absolutely binding, we won't be able to refund your money if students drop out, and in view of the great number of participants we would be happy if you could also offer a workshop to our students and thus make it an even more important experience.
To enrol, please fill in the attached from and send it per mail, fax, etc to me (Hoeness@t-online.de, 07151-34945, Martin-Luther-Str.6, 71404 Korb) by 24th October. If you are in doubt, enrol anyway, we assure you, you will enjoy it and it's much simpler to cancel later in the year, you won't be able to it the other way round and enrol later.
