The World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships
will be taking place in Winnenden and Backnang between 15th and 20th
March 2008 at the Lessing-Gymnasium and Max-Born-Gymnasium. These
championships, which are very different to the usual style of English
debating in Germany, have four disciplines: Debating, Interpretive Reading,
Persuasive/After-Dinner Speaking, Impromptu Speaking. There will be 110
speakers from 14 countries: Botswana, Canada, Cyprus, Germany, Hong
Kong, Israel, Lithuania, Pakistan, Romania, South Africa, South Korea,
United Kingdom, United States and Zimbabwe. Observers are welcome to watch
the events and find out about this "parallel" system of debating!

California dreaming
in October - Pan
American Schools Debating Championships II, 5 - 10 October 2006
Pasadena, Los Angeles, San Marino /California
For ten pupils from Stuttgart a dream came true!
They went to the 2nd Pan American Schools Debating Championships, 2006
in San Marino, Los Angeles.
On the 5th of October they left Stuttgart, flying to Los Angeles. Very
jetlagged the guests from Germany arrived and met their host families
at San Marino High School, Pasadena.
The three German teams then had to face six rounds of hard debating against
native speakers coming from all over the USA and Canada. The debates took
place at three different venues. Schurr High School, Loyola Marymount
University and San Marino High School hosted all debaters and provided
them with food and friendliness.... report
